One Month Before Moving

• Fill out change of address forms (US Post Office, IRS)

• Make arrangements with a moving company

• Reserve a Moving Truck for the move

• Book airline tickets, car rentals, and/or hotels

• Obtain copies of medical records

• Set-up a new checking account at bank in new city

• Take an inventory of belongings before they are packed, including serial numbers of electronic equipment

• Make arrangements for transporting pets

• Begin to use food items you have as to waste as little as possible

One to Two Weeks Before Moving

• Inform utility services as well as magazine/newspaper companies of new address.

• Confirm Travel arrangements

• Reserve elevator if in apartment building for moving day

• Clean clothes and rugs and have them packed

• Close existing bank accounts and have funds wired to new accounts

• Collect valuables from safe-deposit box. Make copies of important document before mailing to new address.

• Contact your insurance agent to ensure your coverage through your homeowner's insurance or renter's policy during the move.

On Moving Day

• Double check under beds, in closets, drawers, shelves, attic and garage to make sure nothing is left behind
